Fallout 3 DLC details: Increased level cap, new perks, first screens, and more

Not long ago, Bethesda hinted at what was in store for Fallout 3‘s future in terms of downloadable content, and already the company is throwing out more juicy details our way.

IGN interviewed Fallout 3‘s lead producer Jeff Gardiner about the three upcoming DLC packs, and you’d be surprised at how much was divulged. The first pack, Operation: Anchorage, has you fighting your way into a Chinese base while inside a computer simulation a la Tranquility Lane. It’ll be out in January for 800 Microsoft Points.

Operation: Anchorage will include a new perk, “Covert Ops,” and is said to take between four and five hours to complete. Additionally, if you opt to purchase this pack, it can be accessed via a quest marker on your in-game map.

You asked for it, and now Bethesda is going to deliver: the third piece of DLC, Broken Steel, will not only raise the game’s level cap, but it will also bring “new foes, perks, and all of the other Fallout 3 staples” along with it.

Perhaps the most excited news to come out of this interview, however, is the fact that players will be allowed to “continue on after the main quest ends in the Broken Steel DLC.” For anyone who’s beaten Fallout 3, this should be music to your ears.
