Warp factor soon
Dramatic Labs has announced via Twitter that Star Trek: Resurgence has a solid release date. It will drop on PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platforms on May 23, 2023.
Created by a team that involves over 20 people from Telltale Games, Star Trek: Resurgence follows the choice-based systems that defined later games in the publisher’s catalog. Set shortly after Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Resurgence puts you in the roles of first officer Jara Rydek and engineering ensign Carter Diaz as they deal with two civilizations on the brink of war.

Star Trek: Resurgence was announced at the 2021 Game Awards, and was initially set to release last year. The developer made the difficult decision to delay it to ensure it could deliver a polished experience. Previously, they estimated an April or May release, and it looks like they will be right on the mark.
A new tale to tell
I was a fan of Telltale back when they were a scrappy small publisher trying to resurrect the adventure genre. I kind of fell off around the time they found acclaim with their Walking Dead game, but not because I had a distaste for their business decisions. It was because I didn’t care about the properties they were pursuing in the way I love Sam & Max or Homestar Runner. I probably should’ve had a distaste for their business decisions, because the company imploded due to bad management in 2018.
It’s nice to see their talent splinter off and find new outlets on their own. Here’s hoping that they find the magic with Star Trek: Resurgence, because as much as Telltale had its problems, its talent wasn’t among them. That creative force needs room to breathe, so hopefully they find it.
And then, hopefully, someone gets around to making a follow-up to Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People. Please.
Star Trek: Resurgence will be hitting PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 23, 2023.
