What we know so far
Diablo 4 has many similarities to the Diablo games that came before it. That said, as a live service game, it does contain a handful of systems seen in modern titles. Of these is the Battle Pass, which should be familiar to anyone who has as much as seen Fortnite, let alone played it.
The Battle Pass in Diablo 4 has naturally attracted a ton of curiosity. Some people view the Battle Pass as bonus content in the game, while others loath the idea of it. Unfortunately, regardless of your perspective, we’ll have to wait to see what the Battle Pass will specifically look like. It won’t appear in Diablo 4 until its first Season of content launches, which should arrive in mid-July. Until then, we only know what Blizzard has revealed so far. Here’s what we know so far.
Where can you find the Diablo 4 Battle Pass?
In Diablo 4, the Battle Pass is exclusively tied to seasonal content. From what we know so far, players will need to create season-specific characters to participate in seasonal content. While seasonal characters will become permanent characters upon the end of the season, you can’t import normal characters into the seasonal fold.
As far as advancing the Battle Pass itself, you’ll need to complete objectives exclusive to that season. This may include collecting items or completing specific dungeons. How the Battle Pass will specifically work beyond that remains to be seen, but both max level players and complete newcomers can access it when it launches.
What will the Battle Pass cost?
Blizzard states that the Battle Pass will come in three forms. While its active, all players can access the free tier, which will unlock a handful of bonuses and cosmetics unique to the Season it appears in. We know this track will feature Smoldering Ashes, which acts as a currency to buy bonuses for the remainder of the Pass’ respective season.
Meanwhile, the Premium Battle Pass will cost $10 USD worth of the Platinum premium currency. According to Blizzard, this track will exclusively contain cosmetic rewards that have no bearing on gameplay. We know that the Premium Battle Pass has more rewards than the free one, but that’s about it.
Finally, the Accelerated Battle Pass will cost $25 USD worth of the Platinum premium currency. This track will give the same perks as the Premium Battle Pass, with 20 tier skips and “a special cosmic” added as a bonus. Once again, we’ll need to wait to find out exactly what that means.
It’s worth noting that the Platinum premium currency makes the actual pricing a bit hard to nail down. While you can buy the exact amount of Platinum you’ll need from the Shop, future Premium Battle Passes may wind up becoming cheaper if you acquire Platinum through other means. Regardless, only you can decide whether or not the benefits of these passes justify their cost.
