Fear the resurrected demon Astaroth
Near the end of the Act II story quests, you will find yourself looking to cleanse the town of Cerrigar of evil. In doing so you will come face to face with one of your most challenging foes yet: Astaroth. As part of the quest As the World Burns you will reach Cerrigar only to find Astaroth mounted on the back of a three-headed fiery beast. This is how to defeat Astaroth in Diablo 4.
How to defeat Astaroth in Diablo 4
This boss can be tough, especially if you are on a higher World Tier. You will fight Astaroth across three phases, with his attacks getting faster and more frequent with each phase. Once you have depleted 1/3 of his health, he jumps into another part of Cerrigar and the next phase of the fight begins. This will happen twice throughout the entire fight, so feel free to heal up and wait for cooldowns to refresh before following Astaroth after each phase.
Throughout the fight, Astaroth will use the following abilities:
- Melee: Astaroth swings his long weapon at you
- Fire Breath: The three-headed mount spits fire at you from each head. The flames shoot out in a long cone from Astaroth’s model. Evade or sidestep the cone to avoid damage while continuing to hit the boss.
- Meteor Shower: Astaroth continues swinging his weapon at you while summoning meteors from the sky. You can see where the meteors are going to land so you can properly evade them. Once they hit, they will continue to burn the ground where they landed for a few seconds.
- Summon Wargs: Periodically throughout the fight, Wargs will be summoned into the area and attack you. They should be killed so they don’t overwhelm you, especially paired with meteors falling around you.
By the time you reach this boss you should have at least a point invested into a mobility skill. Astaroth is really all about positioning for is Meteor Shower. It would be wise to make sure either your class mobility skill or your evade ability is off cooldown. That way you can properly maneuver around his Meteor Shower every time.
Once you have defeated Astaroth you can speak with Doran to complete the story quest and finish Act II.
Diablo 4 Defeat Astaroth Bug
At this moment there is a bug in which even after defeating Astaroth, the fight will not end and the quest will not complete. Even though the boss will lay in front of you defeated, your quest will still say you must Defeat Astaroth.
Unfortunately, the only fix for this bug at the moment is to log out, log back in, and attempt the fight again. You will know if it worked properly when Doran runs over to you and allows you to talk to him to finish the quest. Blizzard appears to be aware of this bug and claims a hotfix is coming soon.
