In Final Fantasy XVI, The Wailing Banshee boss will keep Clive on his toes. After withstanding all manner of wind-based attacks and rapid blows, he definitely will be feeling the pain. While this A-boss is easier than others, don’t underestimate this nasty winged monstrosity. Here’s where to find The Wailing Banshee (otherwise known as Gizamaluk) and where to find it.
Keep in mind that you won’t be able to take on The Wailing Banshee until you’ve finished the Streets of Madness main storyline quest. This is significantly deep into the game, close to the ending.
Gizamaluk, The Wailing Banshee location & directions in Final Fantasy XVI (FF16)
Gizamaluk can only be found after finishing the quest called “An Inconvenient Truth.” Look at Clive’s letters in his bedroom after finishing the Streets of Madness main mission. You’ll find a note from Vivian. Read it and then speak to her in The Hideaway’s Map Room. She’ll then ask you to find a tome called From a Distance. You can collect it from Garnick, southwest from the Vidargraes fast travel point.
Finish the quest, and you’ll find the Gizamaluk boss is now available on the hunt board under the guise of The Wailing Banshee. In fact, you can find The Wailing Banshee from where you just visited: Garnick. Head back to the same area, and the Gizamaluk boss will now be waiting for you.
How to beat The Wailing Banshee
Right out of the gate, The Wailing Banshee pulls out the big guns with the Cocophony attack. Plumes of green energy on the ground summon wind to attack Clive from below. Keep dodging out of the way and our protagonist should be fine.
What you should be worried about are the standard attacks. One instance has The Wailing Banshee (Gizamaluk) charge up a big beam of wind energy towards you. It’s easily avoidable, and I wasn’t hit once by this move. Just dodge at the right time.
What you should be careful of are the attacks in the air. This boss will charge at you at a moment’s notice, so you have to be vigilant if you want to dodge out of the way or even parry it. These aerial moves don’t cause a lot of damage (around 200-300) but they certainly add up and dwindle your HP.
Storm Chaser is when it gets scary. As this boss reaches its last moments, it will brighten in a yellow-green hue. If it hits you with a charging attack and then leaves a storm behind, you could be taking 1,500 damage in an instant. Be careful during this phase of the fight and dodge like no tomorrow. What makes this worse is there are plumes of wind ready to snatch you up as well. Hit the creature with ranged magic attacks and the occasional swordplay, and it should be taken down shortly after.
Other A-class hunts are more difficult than this, like Terminus and even Gobermouch.
