When Starfield launches on September 6, and on September 1 for those with Early Access, it will be one of the biggest launches of the year. However, since being announced in 2018 there has been a lot of confusion regarding which platforms Starfield will launch on. With us now being this close to release, we have compiled information on all confirmed Starfield platforms at launch.
Starfield is the first original Bethesda Softworks franchise in 25 years. Popular franchises The Elder Scrolls and Fallout have existed since the 1990s, so this is a big deal for Bethesda.
Unfortunately, it looks like Starfield will only be launching on PC and Xbox Series X|S. The upcoming adventure action RPG includes massive open worlds and details that made it impossible to also release on previous-generation consoles like Xbox One.
Is Starfield ever coming to PlayStation 5?
While anything is possible, it seems unlikely we’ll see Starfield coming to PlayStation 5 anytime soon. Bethesda—who is now part of Microsoft—has made it very clear that Starfield is an Xbox exclusive. When the acquisition first went through, Xbox said exclusivity for each Bethesda title would be on a case-by-case basis. Well, it looks like the decision was to make Starfield an exclusive title after all.
Even though it’s certainly not the same thing, there is a little bit of hope for PlayStation fans. If you want to try the game out and have a PC that can run it, Starfield will be a Day One on Game Pass title. Therefore, you can explore the vast of space on PC as part of Game Pass for PC.
The possibility is always there that eventually Starfield will come to PlayStation 5, but I doubt it. Microsoft has spent a lot of money on acquisitions lately, so they are surely looking to recoup those investments somewhere.
For now, this is all confirmed Starfield platforms heading into its launch window.
Starfield releases on September 6 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and on Game Pass. If you purchase the premium edition you get Early Access on September 1.
