With Starfield closer than ever to launch day, you may have questions about how and where you can play the upcoming sci-fi game. Thanks to Microsoft’s acquisition of ZeniMax Media, Starfield is a console exclusive that’ll only appear on Xbox Series X/S as well as PC.
The upcoming game will also have cross save support. This means you’ll be able to kick off your game on PC and pick up where you left off on Xbox Series X if you wish. This is good news, though there are a few things you should know.
Starfield is another Play Anywhere title from Xbox
When browsing Xbox Game Store or Microsoft Store, you may notice that some games have a ‘Play Anywhere’ label on them. This is more useful than it initially appears, especially if you game on both Xbox and PC. When you purchase a Play Anywhere title, you can enjoy that game on PC, Xbox, or both!
Starfield is a Play Anywhere title, so as long as you purchase one copy, you’ll be able to play it on whichever platform you please. This also means it has cross save capabilities. There are a few conditions to be aware of.
Firstly, the Play Anywhere program only applies to digital games, so make sure you buy the digital edition of Starfield if you want this functionality. Secondly, only games purchased from Microsoft’s digital stores are eligible for Play Anywhere. Hence, Steam players won’t have cross save capabilities. Lastly, your PC and Xbox Series X/S should be signed into the same Microsoft account if you want to utilize cross saves.
The best part is that you won’t have to do any work on your part if you’ve purchased the right version of Starfield and both your console and PC are connected to the internet. Your saves are automatically saved and synched to your devices via cloud storage.
