Where are the Avengers in Spider-Man 2 (PS5)?

Where have all the heroes gone?

Outside of the Marvel’s Avengers films, many solo hero outings are often plagued by one question: Where are the other heroes? The Avengers make their home in New York City, but do they show up in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?

The Avengers and many Marvel heroes make New York their main base of operations. Even in Insomniac’s swing-tastic game, the superhero group has its own landmark. It’s hard to miss. Avengers Tower can be seen looming over the city in the Upper East Side. It’s massive, able to size up many of the tallest skyscrapers in town. But don’t bother knocking on the front doors.

The Avengers are out to lunch (check the shawarma place)

As expected, the Avengers can’t be found in Spider-Man 2. It happens. And it shouldn’t be expected for this arachnid-themed outing. Having too many heroes in the kitchen could be distracting, and Spidey’s roster of characters is robust enough without flinging The Hulk into the middle of it. Granted, having Tony Stark drop Pete a line does certainly seem appropriate for the characters, but alas. In my opinion, Insomniac is smart to keep things focused.

Are there any hints of other Marvel characters in Spider-Man 2? Yes, of course. There is the Avengers tower mentioned earlier. You can also visit Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Santorum in Greenwich. Sadly, you’re unable to enter the building to ask around. The same can be said of the Wakanda Embassy over in Midtown, but at least you can go by and pay your respects.

Coney Island includes a barrage of Marvel Easter eggs ranging from Hydra, to Speed Demon and Dazzler (see below).

Spider-Man 2 does reference Doctor Strange a lot

Miles does have a brush with the Avengers during a mission in Spider-Man 2 — sort of. In the main story mission ‘Make Your Own Choices’, Miles temporarily teams up with Black Cat who stole a magical teleportation stick from the Sanctum Santorum. She hands it off to Miles before making her exit. But before Miles can do something kind of dumb, the wand disappears in a puff of magical dust. In its place is a note from none other than Doctor Strange’s friend, Wong.

It reads:

Sorry,

Just got back from Nepal. The Doctor and I owe you one.

-Wong

Other than the references to the Doctor and Wong, Spider-Man 2 doesn’t seem to get webbed up in Avengers stuff.
