Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.51 is out, bringing a number of new activities to the MMO including a new Variant Dungeon in Aloalo Island.
This island getaway feels like a little preview of what’s to come in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail—taking place in the southern isles, and giving your Warrior of Light another little island getaway. It’s replete with monsters and spoils alike, and even a gang of troublemakers. To get there, though, you’ll need to unlock it first.
Accessing the Aloalo Island Variant Dungeon
To chart a course for Aloalo Island in FFXIV, you’ll need to start the quest “Stranger from Paradise”. It’s a Level 90 DoW/DoM quest, and you’ll need to both finish the main scenario quest “A Satrap’s Duty” and spoken with Osmon in Old Sharlayan at (X:11.9, Y:13.3).
Once you’ve done that, talk to the Shallow Moor at Old Sharlayan (X:12.0, Y:13.3) to start “Stranger from Paradise.” Despite the name, no, it does not involve our favorite chaos-hating protagonist from a different Final Fantasy.
You’ll be sent off to The Great Work in Thavnair to speak with Pasasun; he’s just next to the Aetheryte, in a room off to the side (X:10.4, Y:23.8). A cutscene will fill you in: Matsya has found a talking bird, who speaks of a far-off island called Aloalo. It’s got rich treasures to explore, and Matsya will need to accompany you there.
Setting off for your first dungeon run
After getting introduced to all the major players, and some surprise troublemakers, you can head to the port near Yedilhmad (X:24.3, Y:37.2), and speak to Pasasun again.
The expedition has been set up, and you’re ready to set out for Aloalso Island in FFXIV. Crucially, this is another branching path dungeon. I’d recommend making a match-made party run the first time, just to familiarize yourself with the different options and choices.
But if you want to complete every path for the achievement, you’ll probably want to either Party Finder or team up with pals. You can run it solo too, but what fun is that? Either way, adventure and spoils await.
Unlocking Another Aloalo Island and Savage
If you want a little extra difficulty, you can also unlock the harder Another Aloalo Island option by speaking to Osmon in Old Sharlayan (X:11.9, Y:13.3) after finishing a run of the standard Aloalo Island. These require a party composition and tend to be harder than a usual Variant Dungeon run.
On top of that, if you want even more challenge, speak to Osmon again after clearing Another Aloalo Island and you’ll unlock Another Aloalo Island (Savage). Truly not for the faint of heart, but worth it if you want all those sweet dungeon rewards.
