How to relocate buildings in Cities: Skylines 2

Cities: Skylines Nuclear Power Plant relocate

Let me guess. You built a coal power plant downwind from your suburbs, and now everyone is choking on the smog. It happens. We’ve all done it.

But maybe you don’t have the budget to bulldoze that power plant and build it elsewhere. I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is that there’s a built-in system in Cities: Skylines 2 that allows you to relocate buildings and place them somewhere instantaneously. The bad news is you’re still going to get charged for it.

First, I’ll tell you how to do it. Click on the building you want to move. At the bottom of the info pane, you’ll see an arrow coming outwards from what looks like a concrete box. Click on it, and your building will snap to your cursor. Drag it to where you want to place it and slap it down (if it’s not obstructed).

Wait, hold on a moment. While you’re hovering your building where you want it to go, pay attention to the box on your cursor with the stack of cash. It will tell you how much it will cost to move your building.

To put into perspective how much you’ll save by relocating, I tested this on a nuclear power plant. Relocating the big sucker was projected to cost me $1,250,000. A brand new power plant would run me $5,000,000. If my math is correct, then the cost to relocate is one-quarter of what the building usually costs. It’s still expensive, but it’s cheaper than bulldozing.

Also, note that not every building can be relocated. It’s mostly zoned buildings that can’t be moved, and this includes specialized industries.
