With Alan Wake 2, the Remedy Connected Universe has been expanded, and Alan’s world collides with the FBC’s. Keep an eye out, because there are several links between the two franchises to be found.
For RCU fans, it may feel as though Alan Wake 2 didn’t go as far as it could have when it comes to crossing the two franchises. Nevertheless, it is great to find occasional Easter eggs and references hidden in Bright Falls and the Dark Place. This guide will point out all the Control references you may have missed in Alan Wake 2.
The Federal Bureau of Control
The FBC plays a central role in Control. Modeled off the fictional SCP Foundation, the FBC works in secrecy to study and contain anomalies that occasionally show themselves in the ordinary world. In Control, Jesse Faden becomes the director of the FBC.
The organization is a constant presence in Alan Wake 2, as it is also investigating the strange cult murders taking place in Bright Falls. It tries to get Saga Anderson off the case, but she isn’t one to quit so easily. You’ll notice signs referencing the FBC all over, and members of the organization eventually make an appearance in Saga’s storyline.
Altered World Events
Altered World Events, or A.W.Es, are introduced in Control. The term refers to happenings where preternatural forces wreak havoc with our world. They are explored in depth in the A.W.E DLC which features Alan Wake and reveals that Cauldron Lake is a Threshold. You’ll find a reference to A.W.Es near Cauldron Lake in Alan Wake 2.
Dr. Casper Darling
Dr. Darling appears in Control in a series of live-action videos where he explains some of his loony theories. He wears a white lab coat and round spectacles that make him easy to instantly recognize. You’ll spot him on the cover of a book called Interpretations of Many Worlds which is found at several points in the game.
Ahti the Janitor
Ahti is a Finnish janitor in the Oldest House. Though he looks like a regular guy, he is actually a preternatural entity. He serves a vital role in the FBC, and he helps Jesse several times in her adventure. Ahti shows up quite frequently in Alan Wake 2, helping both Saga and Alan. His songs also contain thematically relevant lyrics.
Oceanview Hotel
In the Dark Place, Alan encounters the Oceanview Hotel where he uses his plot board to uncover bloody horrors. The place might be familiar to anyone who’s played Control, as the game features the Oceanview Motel.
Mr. Door
This is an easy reference to miss. In Control, Jesse’s brother, Dylan, mentions that he went to a dark place where he met someone named Mr. Door. We seemingly meet this man in Alan Wake 2, and he’s the host of a talk show that Alan doesn’t want to be a part of.
Remedy isn’t done with Alan Wake 2 just yet. There are two DLCs on the way, beginning with Night Springs which will launch in Spring 2024.
