The best weapons and armor in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora are crafted from the best materials. Gathering raw materials with the best stats requires the Nimble Gathering III buff, which can only be obtained through Pale Fire Seeds.
Here’s how to find, harvest, and use Pale Fire Seeds in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora!
Where to find Fire Seeds
You can find several patches of Superior and Exquisite Fire Seeds under the Celebration Arches in the Upper Plains region, many of them conveniently close together. Technically, you don’t need higher-quality Fire Seeds to get Pale Fire Seeds, but I like this location for its high density of Fire Seed plants.
Once you find a patch of Fire Seeds, you’ll find that the seeds are enclosed in a protective casing, preventing you from harvesting them. In order to make the casings open up, the plants need to be set on fire. This can be done by shooting them, but you cannot obtain Pale Fire Seeds this way, only regular Fire Seeds.
How to turn regular Fire Seeds into Pale Fire Seeds
Pale Fire Seeds are regular Fire Seeds that have been hit by lightning, meaning you’ll need to wait for a thunderstorm. Go to the Celebration Point Na’vi camp on the western side of the Celebration Arches and pass time by the fire. The weather will change each time you wait. Open your map and view the weather in the bottom-right corner if you’re unsure of what weather you have. Time of day does not matter; all you need is a thunderstorm.
Once you have your thunderstorm, go to the area beneath the Celebration Arches, find a patch of Fire Seeds, and wait for lightning to strike. Lightning strikes appear to be random, so offer a prayer to Eywa and settle in for a wait.
I like to stand in the patch of Fire Seeds, then leave my game running while I do something else. A loud crash of lightning followed by my character screaming alerts me to tab back in and get my Pale Fire Seeds.
As long as you don’t pass time again at a campfire, the thunderstorm should last quite a while. Mine lasted for almost a full day/night cycle. Feel free to fast travel to deposit materials if you need inventory space for more Fire Seeds.
How to gather Pale Fire Seeds
Eywa willing, lightning will strike your patch of Fire Seeds, igniting the plants in the area and opening them up. The fire will also damage your character a bit, letting their screams serve as a handy notification that your Pale Fire Seeds are ready.
Grab a Fire Seed and pull straight up to harvest them at their best. It’s worth noting that only the Fire Seed plant(s) that are actually hit by lightning will become Pale Fire Seeds. This means that you’ll usually get one or two Pale Fire Seed plants in any given patch. The rest of the plants that opened from the resulting fire will just be regular Fire Seeds.
Pale Fire Seeds are indeed a paler pink than regular Fire Seeds, but it can be hard to visually tell the difference during a thunderstorm. I just gather all of the Fire Seeds in a patch and donate the ones I don’t need.
Once a patch has been depleted, find another patch and wait for lightning to strike until you have all the Pale Fire Seeds you need.
How to use Pale Fire Seeds
Now that you have your Pale Fire Seeds, you need to cook them to activate the bonus. Go to any cooking station and cook a dish using a Pale Fire Seed as the first ingredient. The second ingredient doesn’t matter, but Superior or Exquisite ingredients will give you a longer buff duration. An Exquisite second ingredient will result in an hour-long buff duration.
The resulting dish will have the Nimble Gathering III bonus, giving you +20% core stats when gathering new materials.
Eat this dish before gathering crafting materials for the strongest weapons and armor with the best stats. Depending on your buff duration, you should have enough time to get materials for two to four new gear pieces.
Happy gathering!
