The further you go in the Palworld tech tree, the more you’ll need harder-to-get materials. One such material is Coal, which you’ll quickly learn that its mining locations in Palworld aren’t exactly easy to explore.
The best mining locations for coal in Palworld are in the game’s scorching desert biomes. To prepare, you should unlock the Tropical Outfit at level 9. It requires three Cloth and two Flame Organs. You should also wait until you can craft the Metal Pickaxe at level 11 for five Ingot, 20 Wood, and 15 Stone. The deserts are hot environments, and the Tropical Outfit will let you explore them without slowly taking damage.
The best locations for mining coal in Palworld
The first desert you’ll likely come across is the one around the center of the map — the Twilight Dunes. Keep an eye out for coal deposits, which look like large, black boulders. They can be mistaken for regular stone deposits, but note that coal is much darker in color. It’s almost black in appearance with a bumpy surface.
There are a few major deserts in Palworld that contain coal. The aforementioned Twilight Dunes is in the center, with a second desert at the bottom-left section of the map:
There’s another desert north of the map:
Don’t sleep on the desert to the southwest! In my travels there, I did find one of the best locations for mining coal in Palworld. There’s a small island in the center of the oasis:
The island hides at least five coal nodes to go to town on:
The only issue I had with this delicious location is that it’s nowhere near a fast travel point. If you plan to visit the island, you better have a light inventory with a good amount of points spent on increasing your weight limit.
Deserts are also good if you’re looking for Sulfur and High Quality Pal Oil.
