The First Hunt for Genesis is now live in Final Fantasy XIV, running through March 11. There’s a long list of duties eligible for Tomestones of Genesis rewards, too. From traditional Moogle assignments to the new Ultimog Challenge, here’s the latest on FFXIV’s Moogle Treasure Trove and how to unlock the Ultimog challenge.
How to Unlock the Ultimog Challenge
Before you can do anything for this event, you need to find one of the Itinerant Moogles:
- Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (X9.4 Y11.6)
- New Gridania (X12.4 Y12.1)
- Uldah – Steps of Nald (X9.6 Y9.1)
Talking to them will unlock the Mogpendium and allow you to take part in the event. You won’t earn Tomestones for completing associated duties until you’ve unlocked this, so make sure this is the first thing you do!
The Mogpendium Ultimog Challenge
For those who were expecting this duty to be a high-level Trial or Raid, sorry to be the bearer of possibly bad news, but it looks like you’re going to have to go Ocean Fishing instead. The requirements for this duty are as follows:
- Earn a score of 8,000 or more on any Ocean Fishing Route
As promised, the Ultimog Challenge does indeed offer a sizable reward – 50 Tomestones of Genesis I, to be precise. You’ll only be rewarded once for completing this challenge during the event.
How to unlock Ocean Fishing
If this is your first foray into the world of FFXIV Ocean Fishing, you’re going to have to unlock it, first. Head to Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks and talk to Fhilsnoe (X7.0, Y14.0) to pick up a quest, All the Fish in the Sea. Completing this quest will unlock Ocean Fishing.
How to join Ocean Fishing
This is where things get a little bit different from what you might be used to.
Ocean Fishing is only available every two hours in real-time. I know this can be slightly confusing in the beginning, but there are Community-made references like Lulu’s Tools, which are helpful for watching the timer.
When you know that a voyage is about to begin, you have to physically take yourself to Limsa Lominsa and talk to Dryskthota (X3.0 Y12.7). She will submit you into the queue for ocean fishing. You cannot access Ocean Fishing in any other way.
Dryskthota can also provide you with route details as well as the upcoming voyage schedule.
Minimog Challenges
These challenges will reset weekly at the same time as the general weekly reset. Completing either of them will earn you 10 Tomestones of Genesis I.
Week one (January 30 – January 6):
- Complete 5 FATEs in either Lakeland or Kholusia
- Win a game of Triple Triad against Fufulupa (X22.6 Y17.1) in Western Thanalan.
List of The Hunt for Genesis I duties
Considering the fact that you can only earn the 50 Tomestones for the Ultimog once during the event, you’re going to need more ways to gather Tomestones if you want to get your hands on the sweet rewards.
