As one of the latest full-blooded console/PC games to release on iOS, Warframe just massively increased its potential audience reach. If you’re more of an Android kind of person, though, you may have been hoping to jump on the bandwagon as well. Sadly, that’s not in the cards — yet.
Indeed, Warframe is currently not available on Android, as Digital Extremes has chosen to do the porting job one mobile platform at a time. iOS comes first, allowing the developer to polish the experience up and see how the platform meshes with its own monetization strategies. Though you can’t currently play Warframe on Android, do keep in mind that it’s going to happen sooner or later. Digital Extremes’ own Rebecca Ford, the Warframe Creative Director, has confirmed as much in a recent interview.
Warframe is coming to Android phones… eventually
In an interview with TouchArcade, Ford explained that Digital Extremes “[wants] to at least be testing [Warframe] on the Android platform this year.” She believes that this is “well within reach,” adding that this claim “is not just a hopeful statement. We’re getting there,” she said.
This is, of course, a bit of a disappointment if you were hoping to grind some Ducats or trade for Platinum on your Android handheld in short order. Regardless, it is good news that Warframe should be coming out on Android sometime down the line. In fact, Ford said that this year’s TennoCon, which is due for July 19-20, will have more information about Warframe on Android. Though, this could also mean there won’t be more details about the port until then, so it could turn out to be a double-edged sword.
Whatever the case may be, it seems like Android device users might not get to play Warframe on their phones until 2025, with some flight testing happening later this year. It’s not ideal, but the developer’s experience with the ongoing iOS port might give the team the insight necessary to polish up the Android port, if nothing else.
