This is part of the Johnny’s Seaside Inn sidequest chain, which involves Cloud and co. running all around Corel, helping to get Johnny’s new inn up and running. Once its set, you’ll be able to start displaying and tracking all the special trophies throughout Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth‘s runtime.

Pristine vs. marred crown

The crown drops as part of the fight with the Tonberry King, which you unlock by completing Expedition Intel locations in southern Corel. You’ll need to advance the story beyond the Golden Saucer to do so, so I’d advise you wait until you’ve got access to the southern part of Corel before tackling this venture.

The Tonberry King can drop the crown, but how you get it determines what condition you get it in. To get a pristine crown, you’ll need to have a party member equip and use the Steal Materia, normally reserved for taking items out of enemy pockets.

Instead, you’ll need to stagger the Tonberry King and get him to drop his crown. You’ll know it’s worked when the crown is on the ground, as a separate targetable unit. Then, fast as you can, have your thief-of-choice use the Steal ability, before the Tonberry King can pick the crown back up.

You’ll know it’s worked if, at the end of the fight, your party remarks on the good state of the crown and you have a “pristine crown” in your inventory.

Can you re-do the Tonberry King fight?

If you mess it up and get the marred crown, there’s good news: you can easily re-do the Tonberry King fight as many times as you’d like. The area lets you simply hold Triangle to re-fight the Tonberry King and his minions, so feel free to keep refighting the boss as often as you need for the pristine crown.

With that in your pocket, you can head back to Johnny and get the best reward for the quest, as well as the pride of knowing you put a good crown in his new inn. Just make sure to keep some Phoenix Downs at the ready, in case you end up grinding this fight.
