In 1997’s Final Fantasy 7 on PS1, Cid Highwind is the party’s transportation expert. Despite not having a very grand roll, he wasn’t an optional party member, joining no matter what course you took. He’s also unavoidable in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but there are caveats.
When do you meet Cid in FF7 Rebirth?
You don’t meet Cid until maybe a smidge past the halfway point in the game. Chapter 9, to be exact. The end of Chapter 9, to be even more exact. In fact, he’s who ferries you between Gongaga in Chapter 9 to Cosmo Canyon in Chapter 10 using his trusty aircraft, Tiny Bronco.
At first, that’s the only role that Cid plays. He never leaves his plane, simply acting as a fast-travel method for later areas of the game. There are some scenes of him getting to know the party, but once they’re at their destination, he takes off until they need him again.
Later on, however, he’ll start following the party, however…
Is Cid playable in FF7 Rebirth?
While Cid will take a more prominent part in your party’s adventure, he doesn’t actually join the combat cast. He also isn’t a “Guest” party member like Red XIII was at the end of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. He won’t take a supportive role in a fight alongside the rest of your benched party members, either. He’s just there.
There’s a high likelihood that Cid will get his hands dirty in the third part of the new Final Fantasy 7 Trilogy, but for Rebirth, he’s largely just there to look pretty.
