Destiny 2: Into the Light arrives in April, ahead of The Final Shape

What’s coming Into the Light in Destiny 2’s future?

While Destiny 2 players are earning their Skimmer hoverboards and participating in the Guardian Games, some new content is just around the corner. No, I’m not talking about the Ghostbusters crossover arriving next week, but the sparsely detailed Into the Light update. In the most recent This Week in Destiny communication, Bungie offered a smidge of info about the forthcoming content drop, revealing some art and stamping a release date on the update.

With The Final Shape delayed, Season 23 has a longer run time than initially anticipated. While Bungie has been filling this time with incentives and reward-laden quests like Riven’s Wishes, there has yet to be any substantive new content. That’s where Into the Light comes in, promising to offer something to keep Guardians busy until The Final Shape arrives in June.

What has Bungie shared about Into the Light?

In the TWID, Bungie announced that the Into the Light update would hit Destiny 2 on April 9. Alongside the new content, the game will also see some sandbox and more general quality-of-life tuning. Like details about the Into the Light content itself, Bungie wasn’t ready to share any specific information about the April 9 updates. Thankfully, the TWID did note that questions would soon be answered, as three Into the Light-focused live streams are inbound.

Interested players can tune in to the livestreams starting on March 19 at 1 PM. The next one will be on March 26 at the same time, and April 2 will be the last, also at 1 PM. Bungie notes that each livestream will cover different info, noting, “Each will focus on different part of the content update and be presented by our developers, who will be sharing tons of information and providing a hands-on preview.”

Though there’s still a lot of mystery surrounding what Into the Light actually is, the TWID did host some artwork that may offer some answers. The art depicts a Fireteam of three Guardians in the Last City, being swarmed by various Hive enemies. Alongside the Guardians, there appears to be a turret of some kind, and it looks like the OG Tower has been restored.

While it’s still too early to say with any certainty, the art implies Into the Light could include some kind of horde or “Tower” defense (get it?) content centered in the Last City. Players have been asking for a horde mode in Destiny 2 for years, and it’d be a welcome addition to the game in this dry spell before the new expansion. Of course, players will have to wait a little longer before the curtain draws.
