Microsoft offering standalone wireless mics this fall

Microsoft has announced that it will offer an Xbox 360 Wireless Microphones this fall for an “estimated retail price” of $49.99. It should be noted that this is the same microphone peripheral already available on the market, two of which come bundled with Microsoft’s karaoke game, Lips… which retails for $49.99. (And even cheaper, as the game’s been discounted at a few retailers.)

The microphone is currently compatible with a bunch of games, including Lips, Guitar Hero Metallica, and Disney Sing It: High School Musical. The microphone will be compatible with the upcoming Lips “expansion” Number One Hits and Harmonix’s The Beatles Rock Band. Microsoft also mentions that Rock Band 2 supports the microphones, but it currently does not. A patch enabling support was announced months ago, yet hasn’t materialized.

“Cool your jets,” we were told by Harmonix, as the patch is still on its way. We’re very impatient.

In the meantime, get your wireless High School Musical on, and consider running out and getting a discounted Lips bundle with two microphones as soon as possible. Because once the standalone mic hits shelves, you’re going to have to dig deep into your pockets to snatch one up.
