For days now, Helldivers 2 players have been fighting on two fronts, duking it out simultaneously both with the Automaton forces and with the full brunt of the Terminid hives. Surprisingly, though, Super Earth has pulled it through with Helldivers successfully pushing back both enemies at once.
That’s right: all Helldivers 2 players can log into the game right now to claim their 50 Medals for the victory on two fronts. This victory came about after the community won a total of ten Defense campaigns across the entire galaxy. No mean feat, that.
“Freedom has overcome oppression once more,” says the announcement from the developer Arrowhead Games on Discord. “Though much ground was lost, our enemies are exhausted, their assault broken upon the valiant defense raised by the Helldivers.” An admirable message, for sure, and one that ends on a particularly high note for the exceedingly democratic Super Earth government: “To celebrate, all Helldivers may take an additional two minutes on their lunchtime accommodation. Well done.”
Helldivers have managed to defend Super Earth against both the Automatons and the Terminids
Naturally, the community was positively overjoyed with this development, as some players felt that there was no way that Super Earth could pull through in this particular encounter. The “official” Super Earth narrative is that the enemy simply ran out of forces, but this wouldn’t be the first time that Helldivers 2’s game master, Joel, bent the rules in favour of the player base. Regardless, it’s an interesting twist in the ongoing narrative, and it plainly shows that the original Helldivers‘ classic narrative reset isn’t going to happen just yet.
The Helldivers’ victory isn’t going to be all that long-lived, mind. Super Earth isn’t about to sit on its thumbs for a bit just because – against all odds – it managed to fend off not one but two incredibly powerful hostile forces. The next event has already been kicked off following a short tease of cool new Stratagems: the MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines and the RL-77 Airburst Rocket Launcher. There’s a catch, though:
Indeed, we’re only going to get one of these two interesting new Stratagems. If you, too, would like to make your voice heard on this decision, know that it’s never too late to start playing Helldivers 2, as the Galactic War isn’t about to stop anytime soon.
In fact, I’d be willing to bet that Arrowhead is gearing things up for the inevitable reveal of the third major Super Earth adversary: the Illuminates, who have been strangely absent from the galaxy for years now. With all those blue lasers flying about, and Helldivers being mysteriously assassinated from afar, after all, the stage appears to be set already.
