For fans of Brandon Sanderson’s The Stormlight Archive, the fifth book in the series—Wind and Truth—marks an important place in the saga, serving as the conclusion to its first story arc.
So, be you a long-time reader or have only recently been getting into the series, here’s a run down of Wind and Truth‘s release date, how you can pre-order it, and how you can read an early glimpse of it.
What is the release date for Wind and Truth?
Wind and Truth is scheduled to release on Friday, December 6, just in time for Christmas in case you know any Brandon Sanderson fans. You’ll want to make sure they haven’t bought it already, and have at least read the previous books. As the fifth and final entry in a story arc that began in 2010, Wind and Truth probably isn’t the best jumping on point for Sanderson’s epic fantasy series.
This also isn’t the end of The Stormlight Archives as a whole. Sanderson has said in the past he envisions the series as consisting of 10 books. So, while Wind and Truth is an ending per se, it only marks the halfway point of the wider saga. After Wind and Truth, there will be a sequel series comprised of another five books; one set after a big time skip according to a 2017 Reddit AMA Sanderson hosted.

How to read the Wind and Truth prologue
On March 31, 2022, Sanderson uploaded the prologue chapter for Wind and Truth to his website. You can read it for yourself here, and it’s a chunky chapter, offering a new perspective on the night Gavilar, King of Alethkar, was assassinated. It’ll hopefully keep you satiated until the book’s full release, but Sanderson did note that this is a rough draft, so some details may be changed or tweaked in the final product.
