While Armor and more specifically the Armor Cap has been a system of Diablo 4 since its release, most defensive systems including the Armor Cap got a rework in Season 4. Here is everything you need to know about the Diablo 4 Season 4 Armor Cap and how it works.
Diablo 4 Season 4 Armor Cap
The actual hard number Armor Cap in Diablo 4 Season 4 is 9,230. This means that for all characters in Season 4, you should aim to reach 9,230 Armor, but any point does not grant as much survivability and damage mitigation as it does up until reaching the Armor Cap. This season removed Damage Reduction as a rollable stat from the roll pools, making Armor the most important stat to hit the cap for when gearing your character.
The easiest way to reach the 9,230 Armor Cap in Season 4 is to utilize the new Blacksmithing options for crafting your own gear, specifically using the new Tempering system. Here’s the best way to increase your Armor in Diablo 4 Season 4:
- Visit any Blacksmith in Sanctuary.
- Click on the third tab with the anvil icon, which is Tempering.
- Click on the third option which is Defensive.
- Choose Worldly Endurance which has the chance to roll between 8% and 10% increased Armor.
- Continue rolling on the available gear pieces as higlighted on the right until you hit the Armor roll.
- You can continune rerolling on all available pieces highlighted, until you huave all Armor increases.
This process will get you a ton of Armor quickly, and can help you hit the Armor Cap for end-game.
Should you go past the Armor Cap in Diablo 4 Season 4?
Even though reaching the Armor Cap will provide you with the best per-stat damage mitigation, you can still get someone diminishing returns from going beyond the Armor Cap and continuing to get Armor. While it won’t necessarily *hurt* if you go over the Armor Cap, you should be trying to optimize your stats so that stat is going elsewhere, toward a stat you’re getting the full use of, which in most cases will be more offensive stats.
While it’s true you can’t deal damage if you’re dead, in Diablo 4 Season 4, especially for non Hardcore characters, your best defense is oftentimes a solid offense. If you are able to quickly take out enemies, you don’t have to worry about the dead dealing damage to you.
