Summer Game Fest 2024 played host to Bumhouse Games’ reveal for its anticipated line of horror games. The initial slate of titles spans a slew of genres, and even includes Sam Barlow’s next title.
Blumhouse Games was established last year and announced plans to bring horror titles to major platforms without having much to show off. During Summer Game Fest 2024, we finally got a look at everything it’s planning to release. The most interesting thing about them all is that they don’t look like Dead Space or The Callisto Protocol. They’re not AAA titles. They’re all indie games with a distinct look and feel that makes them stand out.
Blumhouse Games reveals indie horror game lineup, including Sam Barlow’s Project C
In the brief Blumhouse Game presentation, Blumhouse founder Jason Blum shares short clips of every game the publisher is launching soon, which includes:
- Crisol: Theatre of Idols by Vermila Studios
- Grave Seasons by Perfect Garbage
- Sleep Awake by Eyes Out
- Fear the Spotlight by Cozy Game Pals
- The Simulation by Plamestudio
- Project C by Half Mermaid
Blumhouse Games intends to take what the film studio does so well and apply it to games. Each title offers something different for the horror genre, and Blumhouse intends to shine a spotlight on all of them in a way that may never have been possible before.
I’m a huge fan of anything Sam Barlow works on, and I can’t wait to see what Project C ends up being. However, the game that caught my eye the most from this segment of the show was Grave Seasons. It looks to be a fantastic blend of cozy gaming, slice-of-life simulator, and cosmic horror, with monsters hiding just off-screen.
Fear the Spotlight will be released later in 2024. It is a classic 90s horror game that should appeal to more than just horror fans, though it is incredibly spooky at its heart. Blumhouse Games explained that it would be starting with multiple games in 2024, so expect to see a couple of the other titles hitting PC and console before the year is out.
Every single title shown by Blumhouse Games is a celebration of indie horror in its purest form. I’m thoroughly excited to try all of them out and am thrilled that such a big name is taking these developers under its wing and helping them get their games out to as many people as possible.
