Who are the Convocation of Fourteen in Final Fantasy XIV

Let’s dip a toe into the lore

The Convocation of Fourteen in Final Fantasy XIV

In a recent interview during the Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail media tour, Director Naoki Yoshida dropped a little bit of a bombshell when he asked if players remembered the names of the Convocation of Fourteen.

Now, if you’re anything like me, you’ll likely be trying to think back through the story of FFXIV, trying to remember all of them. Don’t worry, I’ve cracked open my Encyclopaedia Eorzea collection and refreshed my memory, and now I’ll pass that information on to you.

I won’t go too deep into the details, as there is a lot of lore surrounding every single member of the Convocation. Consider this a TLDR to bring you up to speed with who we’ve met, who we haven’t and who we may meet in the future.

Who are the Convocation of Fourteen in Final Fantasy XIV?

The Convocation is a governing body of Etheirys made up of fourteen seats. These seats are taken by people who, as a sign of respect, give up their given name and take up the name of their position. There are, as you might suspect, fourteen seats in the Convocation, and over the course of Final Fantasy XIV, we’ve personally met roughly half of the members.

Each member of the Convocation has a specified job, and they either possess skills that enable them to take up the role or are leading authorities in the area of expertise. As of yet, we haven’t met every member of the Convocation, but with Yoshida’s comment, it’s a safe bet that we may be meeting at least some more of them soon.

Loghrif – The Pastor

Loghrif is the cataloger and caretaker of terrestrial creations. We’ve met Loghrif, though many will remember them by a different name — Gaia.

Gaia had a loving relationship with another member of the Convocation, Mitron, and their sundered fragments always reincarnated together, allowing them to continue their relationship. At least until Ardbert killed Gaia on the First and she reincarnated alone.

Mitron – The Mariner

An authority figure when it comes to aquatic creations and all things nautical, Mitron’s true name was Artemis. Ardbert also kills the latest reincarnation of Mitron, transforming them into what we know as Eden before Gaia goes on to kill her long-time partner during the Eden raid series.

Emet-Selch – The Redeemer

It goes without saying that we’ve met Emet-Selch on a number of occasions, but his job as part of the Convocation is that of the keeper of the underworld and overseer of death. His true name is Hades, although we also know him by the persona of Solus Zos Galvus, and he was the first Emperor of the Garlean Empire and great-grandfather of Zenos.

Pashtarot – The Arbiter

Known to be the conservator of order and the collective will, the only time we’ve heard of them was during the epilogue of A Realm Reborn, praising Zodiark. We’ve not seen them since.

Fandaniel – The Observer

Known as the assayer of extant phenomena and overseer of life, we met Fandaniel most recently as Hermes in Endwalker, who served as chief overseer of Elpis and created Meteion.

Altima – The Composer

Although we haven’t met Altima in person, they have appeared to discuss the growing strength of the Warrior of Light. In the time between A Realm Reborn and Stormblood, their Ascian mask ended up in the possession of Gaius Baelsar, although Altima’s current whereabouts remain unknown.

Halmarut – The Sower

Specialising in fungal and plant life, Halmarut is the cultivator of botanical and mycological creations. Although we’ve been around their work in the phytobiology wing of Akadaemia Anyder, we have not had any contact with Halmarut themself, and their whereabouts remains unknown.

Nabriales – The Contender

Known as the martial champion and refiner of technique, we’ve met and defeated Nabriales, though you could be forgiven for not instantly remembering this as it happened in the epilogue of A Realm Reborn. Nabriales was aiming to bring about the next Umbral Calamity, ended up kidnapping Minfilia, and then was defeated by the Warrior of Light in the Chrysalis, though it did cost the life of Moenbryda.

Igeyorhm – The Retorician

A collator of knowledge and auditor of debate, Igeyorhm first appeared during A Realm Reborn but took a larger role during Heavensward. A cousin of Lahabrea, Igeyorhm caused Golbez to kill the Thirteenth’s Watcher, ultimately causing the world to be taken over by darkness and all of its inhabitants to turn into Voidsent. We fight Igeyorhm as the final boss in the Aetherochemical Research Facility, where the Warrior of Light uses White Auracite to trap Igeyorhm before using the Eye of Nidhogg to shatter the crystal, killing them permanently.

Deudalaphon – The Innovator

The appraiser of architecture and patron of invention, Deudalaphon, has been mentioned in Final Fantasy XIV, but we have never met them in person. Like Altima, the mask of Deudalaphon somehow came to be in the possession of Gaius Baelsar, but again, we don’t know their current condition or whereabouts.

Emmerololth – The Mender

With a focus on medicine and therapeutic practices, Emmerololth was mentioned during the Eureka story and even had a line of dialogue, although we’ve never met them in person. During the Eureka story, it’s revealed that she was destroyed when the Isle of Val disappeared, but her dialogue comes after this, canonically speaking. Revelations by Emet-Selch suggest that this Emmerololth could be a replacement, but her whereabouts or state remains unclear.

Lahabrea – The Creator

Cousin to Igeyorhm, Lahabrea has authority over creation and phantomology. His true name is Hephaistos, and we’ve known him since A Realm Reborn. He was the main antagonist in Heavensward and played a large role in the Pandaemonium questline in Endwalker. After a battle with Athena, Lahrabrea confronted the Warrior of Light and accepted his fate, dissolving back into the Aetherial Sea.

Elidibus – The Emissary

With the true name of Themis, Elidibus is the only Ascian to wear white robes and claims to be the Emissary for the “one true god”. He is invested in the balance between light and dark and capable of possessing others, so has had many faces during the history of Final Fantasy XIV. At the end of the Pandaemonium questline, Elidibus joined Lahabrea in returning to the Aetherial Sea.

Azem – The Traveler

The seat of Azem has been held by many people through the years, including Venat, who we met during Endwalker. However, Azem’s crystal is currently held by us as the Warrior of Light. On the First, the sundered soul of Azem was reborn as Ardbert, which is why we are able to even see him in the first place during our time there.
