OIC Quartermaster in Final Fantasy XIV

After creating or joining a Free Company (FC) in Final Fantasy XIV, you can start using Company perks and actions — often shorthanded as just ‘FC buffs.’ These benefits are available for the entire FC, offering buffs like EXP increases, longer sprint, and Aetheryte teleport discounts.

Free Company Rank increases yield additional Entitlements, like the Company Chest and more Action options. Those Actions act as one of an FC’s biggest draws, offering players buffs in exchange for Company Credits. On a few occasions, we’ve seen some of these Actions and Entitlements change between updates. So below, we’ve broken down every FFXIV Free Company Rank and what it unlocks, along with every FC buff and its bonuses.

Final Fantasy XIV FC Ranks and what they unlock

The amount of EXP required to rank up a Free Company depends on the number of members. An FC with very few members requires much less EXP to increase in rank, while one with a lot of members will require more EXP. The maximum rank for any FC is 30, and the majority of the first 20 rank increases provide some kind of Entitlement perk.

To purchase FC Actions, you’ll need to head to your Grand Company and talk to the OIC Quartermaster, selecting “Spend Company Credits (Actions).” The cost of each FC buff varies, and purchased Actions are stored as inactive until it’s used. To activate an Action, and therefore make use of the associated buff, you’ll need to:

  • Select the Social menu, then Free Company
  • Navigate to the Actions interface tab
  • Right click the desired Action, then Execute Action
  • The FC buff is activated for 24 hours unless disabled, and applied to all members

All FC Actions will apply their buff for 24 hours, after which time you’ll need to use another of your inactive Actions in order to continue receiving the associated perk..

There are three different grades of actions, which unlock as the FC reaches higher ranks. Grade three Actions are more complicated than the previous two grades, but more on that later.

Grade three actions (Rank 8)

Unlike the previous two grades of Actions, grade three Actions cannot be purchased from an OIC Quartermaster and must be crafted inside a Company Workshop using Aetherial Wheels.

Although grade 3 FC Actions provide bigger buffs, it’s worth noting that making them is complicated and the effort required to produce them may be better used elsewhere. The majority of people, particularly those in smaller FCs, tend to stick to grade 2 Actions.

How to get Grade 3 FC buffs in FFXIV

To make Aetherial Wheels, you’ll need to craft or purchase an Aetherial Wheel Stand of the correct level – level one wheel stands will produce grade one Actions, and so forth. Any action, regardless of grade, can be produced using Aetherial Wheel Stands and their accompanying Wheels.

Level one Aetherial Wheel Stands, which can only be used to produce grade one Actions, can be purchased from Housing Merchants at the following locations:

  • Lavender Beds (X:11.8, Y:8.4)
  • Mist (X:10.9, Y:11.5)
  • The Goblet (X:11.5, Y:9.5)
  • Shirogane (X:10.0, Y:11.9)
  • Empyreum (X:10.2, Y:11.9)

Aetherial Wheel Stands of grade two or higher must be produced inside the Free Company Workshop, using materials gathered via Airship or Subaquatic expeditions. It’s worth noting that both level two and level three Aetherial Wheel Stands can produce lower level Aetherial Wheels.
