Once you’ve completed The Final Shape‘s campaign in Destiny 2, you’ll gain access to the Exotic Quest to unlock one of the best Swords in the game Ergo Sum. That Sword can be improved upon with its Exotic Catalyst, but you’ll need to work to get it.
An Exotic Catalyst acts as an additional ability or Trait for Exotic weapons in Destiny 2. They must first be unlocked; then, quests or requirements must be met to help them reach their true potential. An Exotic weapon as powerful as Ergo Sum with a Catalyst is something to be proud of and something for enemies to fear. It’ll make light work of even Salvation’s Edge in the right hands.
How to get the Ergo Sum Exotic Catalyst in Destiny 2
To get the Ergo Sum Exotic Catalyst, you must complete a run of the Excision activity on Grandmaster difficulty. Note that thanks to Fireteam Finder, you no longer need to do this with a full group of friends formed outside of the game from a clan. Instead, you can matchmake in-game and get together with a group of Guardians who also want to play.
This is how I managed to get the Exotic Catalyst, and I’ve seen quite a few other players report the same. Despite many of us dying while trying to complete the activity, it was still possible to end it and emerge with the Exotic Catalyst.
To find the Excision activity in Destiny 2, open The Pale Heart‘s map in the Director and move all the way to the top right-hand corner of the map. The activity is there, but you’ll need to complete it in narrative mode before you can matchmake into Grandmaster difficulty. To access the narrative mode of this activity, you must complete the Wild Card Quest. Otherwise, you won’t be able to see Excision in The Pale Heart.
What does the Ergo Sum Exotic Catalyst do in Destiny 2?
The Ergo Sum Exotic Catalyst adds the Exotic Trait Transcendent Steel to Ergo Sum. This Trait grants more ammo for Ergo Sum when you deal damage with a Transcendent grenade. This means that when using Ergo Sum and your Prismatic Subclass, you’re going to be able to restore ammo to your most powerful weapon by chucking a grenade and keeping up the damage.
As far as I’m concerned, this is a Catalyst you need to collect as soon as you’re able. It upgrades one of the best weapons in the game; getting it is a journey. With so many fantastic weapons on offer in Destiny 2, having the best version of Ergo Sum is a great baseline for whatever activities future Episodes throw our way.
