Ubisoft officially announces Turtles: Arcade Attack

Last week, we brought word that one or two new Turtles games were listed for the DS. Today, Ubisoft has confirmed the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade Attack, a decidedly old school scrolling beat ’em up. It’s billed as a “tribute” to the classic Coin-Op arcade games, so hopefully that means it’ll be really good, unlike that horrible Turtles in Time remake.

Released as part of The Turtles‘ 25th anniversary shell-ebration (yes, they actually used that pun), Arcade Attack will be available this Holiday season. We have a batch of screenshots in the gallery, so make sure you check them out, and keep an eye out at PAX, because some early hands-on time will be available.

Let me know if it’s good, please!

UBISOFT KICKS SOME SHELL WITH TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES(TM): ARCADE ATTACK

Classic Beat-Em-Up Gameplay Coming Exclusively to Nintendo DS(TM)

SAN FRANCISCO – September 3, 2009 – Ubisoft today announced that it will be releasing an all new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles(TM) adventure game in honor of the 25th anniversary of the brand. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade Attack, developed exclusively for Nintendo DS(TM) system, has an original storyline and is a side-scrolling beat-’em-up game. It is a tribute to the original coin-op classics that made the Turtles into video game legends. The game pits the four Ninja Turtle brothers against their old nemesis, Shredder, and his many villainous henchmen.

“The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 25th anniversary ‘shell-ebration’ is quickly turning into a Turtle fan’s dream, especially if they love video games,” said Gary Richardson, CEO of Mirage Studios.  “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade Attack will absolutely thrill the old school Turtle fan, especially the ones that recall putting in countless hours at the arcade, as well as the newer fan who loves ninja action.”

“Gamers all over the world recall the countless hours of fun these types of arcade games provided,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade Attack plans to recapture that nostalgia and add an entirely new level of sophistication. Given the success of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled, as well as the excitement for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up, we believe that Arcade Attack truly completes the TMNT experience.”

Available this Holiday, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade Attack will feature an all-new combination system, enabling players to string together uppercuts and roundhouse kicks to unlock a series of moves powerful enough to take out even the strongest enemy. In addition, the game will include a cooperative mode, allowing for arcade action with either a friend via local wireless, or a system-controlled Turtle brother.

TMNT fans will be able to play an early version of the game by visiting the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Party Bus, which will be located at the entrance of the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, WA, from Friday, September 4th through Sunday, September 6th.
