Timing: Blame it for the lack of a BC 2 Xbox 360 beta

Logistics are to blame for the lack of a Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Xbox 360-specific beta, according to EA DICE producer Gordon Van Dyke.

Speaking with VideoGamer.com, Van Dyke explained that DICE would have done a beta across all the platforms for the upcoming Battlefield title, but legal crap and plain old logistics kept the beta on two platforms.

The beta debuted on the PS3 this November much to gamer scorn. A PC beta is in the works. Its launch is planned for January 28th, and should run through late February.

Van Dyke explained the reasoning for beta releases, stating that timing played a pivotal role with the PS3 beta launch specifically. “There was no, ‘we want to do it on the PS3’ and then go to Sony and they grease us for doing it. No. It was like, ‘we need to do this, we need to it in these time frames,’ and we were open to all options.”

He added that DICE would have done it for all platforms if the timing worked out, kind of like that time we tried to make enough brownies for that impromptu slumber party. We’re still sorry about that Jana, Frank and Tom — if we had just 30 more minutes, those things would have been done.
