A few people who turned their PS3s on during the notorious ApocalyPS3 may have noticed that they’re now missing Trophies. While I’m sure a few people would love to see the back of those bloody things now, Sony has issued a statement explaining how to easily get them back. At least, for some people.
“It is possible that some users who experienced the connection problems yesterday and tried unsuccessfully to access a game (online or offline) may find that trophy data for that title is no longer displayed,” explains Sony. “To resolve this issue, the user will need to re-access the game to reinstall the trophies, then exit the game and sync their trophy collection to the server in order to regain previous achievements.”
If there is one thing I’ve learned about PS3 fans, it’s that they love to sit and watch installation screens and wait for Trophies to take longer than they should to sync with a server for no justifiable reason, so that ought to be a nice treat for everybody. Wonderful!
There are still reports of missing downloaded games and strange quirks with the Trophy data in which resyncing still doesn’t make them appear, even though the PSN recognizes that the Trophies in question have been unlocked. In any case, it sounds like there’s still a lot of nonsense that’ll need to be weeded out in the wake of this mess, but at least games can be played now. I remember when videogame consoles just did that bit, without all the silly, f*cked up crap that seems to happen alongside it.
