James Cameron Presents James Cameron’s Avatar by James Cameron: The Official Game of the Official James Cameron Movie Directed by James Cameron in Association with James Cameron did not perform well enough for movie producer Jon Landau’s liking. He thinks the game could have done better, and he blames 20th Century Fox for the perceived failure.

According to Landau, Fox did not understand Ubisoft’s needs when it came to marketing the game, wouldn’t let the publisher release a trailer early enough, and generally urged movie companies to work closer with game developers in order to create quality tie-ins. The kind of quality tie-in that Avatar was not.

“[Movie games] can’t be studio driven” stresses the producer. “It has to be filmmaker driven. I think [game companies] need to go find the Jim Camerons, Steven Spielbergs, and Peter Jacksons of the world and develop the relationships with them.”

It would help if games like Avatar weren’t total sh*t, too.
