Back at GDC earlier this year, I sat down with Andrew Goulding of the Australia-based indie developer, Brawsome Games to talk about its upcoming project, Jolly Rover. Let me back up for a second, and clarify what I mean by “its.” You see, Brawsome is a smaller developer. And by small I mean it’s mostly just Goulding.
A labor of love, Jolly Rover is a point-and-click adventure heavily inspired by the Monkey Island series, which Goulding is a huge fan. It follows the tale of a dog pirate named James Rover. Yes, a dog who is also a pirate; Jolly Rover’s world is populated with odd, off-beat characters like this — a swashbuckling bulldog captain, or a sloshed golden retriever in a local tavern.
While Goulding was the main brains behind the project, he did have a little outsourcing help; the game features thousands of lines of spoken dialogue, for instance.
The game is available today for $19.99, via Steam, for both Mac and PC.
