New Street Fighter/Darkstalkers comics in stores today

If you read comics, you’re probably aware that the long running, often hyped Scott Pilgrim series is set to wrap up today. If you’re annoyed by the incessant ranting of series fans and want to buy something besides Scott Pilgrim V6 today just out of spite, or if you’re just looking for something new to pick up alongside the big series finale, there are a two comics from Capcom/Udon being released today that may strike your fancy.

I’ve been following Street Fighter Legends: Ibuki and Darkstalkers: Volume Two since they started. This Ibuki story is easily my favorite thing from a Street Fighter Legends spin-off series to date. Compared to the fun-but-light Sakura series, and the solid-but-unsurprising Chun Li run, Ibuki‘s story feels the most inspired and natural. The way Ibuki, Makoto, Elena, and Oro are written just makes sense, like they were meant to be a part of the same story all along. If you didn’t already know that this was a comic based on a game, I don’t think you’d be able to guess that it was (and I mean that it a good way.)

As for Darkstalkers, I’m not going to lie; the story isn’t that great. Still, this is Darkstalkers. If you love these characters, you’d be a chump not to pick this up. The fact that they keep making Darkstalkers comics despite the fact that there hasn’t been a new Darkstalkers game in over ten years is nothing short of a miracle. You never know when these characters (other than Morrigan) are about to be banished to Capcom obscurity along side the cast of Dino Crisis and One Piece Mansion, so get ’em where you can, while you still can.

I’m skipping Scott Pilgrim today (don’t want the comic to ruin the movie/the game for me) and picking these up instead. How about you? Any chance you’ll give these a shot?
