Trade in games for a digital copy of Deus Ex at GameStop

One of the central themes in Deus Ex: Human Revolution is the clash of ideologies; on one hand, the purists who value the physical shell, and on the other, the futurists who favor the augmented. So it seems strangely apt that GameStop is trying something new with the release of this upcoming Deus Ex title.

The retail chain will allow gamers to use in-store credit, from either disc or hardware trade-ins, as well as GameStop gift cards to pay for a digital copy of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. GameStop is promising that gamers will have more PC titles to pick from soon and they’re even sweetening the deal by offering a DLC pack and entry into a competition. You’ll also get a digital copy of Deus Ex: Invisible War but I suppose you have to take the good with the bad (I kid, I kid).

When GameStop initially acquired Impulse there were plenty of questions raised as to how they would implement Impulse into the retail model. By allowing customers to trade in their unwanted games for digital ones, it seems like the company is removing a barrier that has kept many money-savvy gamers away from digital distribution. Now if only they can work out a system to trade in digital games, we’ll be laughing. At least you won’t get bugged about getting scratch protection on your discs anymore.
