Weekend Charity: Helping the world with only 8-bits

Recommended Videos

About a month ago Monodi, Destructoid community member extraordinaire, posted about an organization called Playpower. Playpower is a volunteer organization and network of game developers and other computer types who develop educational games for the 8-bit gaming computers that are widely used by low-income families around the world. This makes disseminating information and education extremely inexpensive and super easy.

Needless to say we think it’s kind of awesome, so I figured I’d point you towards them for this weekend’s Weekend Charity. The video above lays it all out a bit more than I have and gives you an overall idea of what the group is about. If you’re interested in helping them out in any way, all you have to do is head over to Playpower.org and join their network.

I’m not saying that it will land any of you young game developers out there an amazing job, but “developed a game that helped children in third world countries live longer and happier lives” wouldn’t look too shabby on the old resume. You know, in case selfless acts of kindness aren’t your bag.
