2K Games has revealed that contentious shooter XCOM has been pushed back to April 2012 at the earliest and March 2013 at the latest. That’s the period of time covered by the new “Fiscal 2013” launch window provided by the publisher.
XCOM‘s shift from its old strategic roots to first-person gameplay has been greeted with a mixed reaction from gamers. 2K Marin has been adding some more strategy-based elements to the reboot, but fans of the original series have still felt a bit let down.
Whether this delay was due to 2K avoiding competition or the game simply needing more time is up for debate. In any case, the long wait for solid details and the shifting release windows serve as a grim harbinger.
