The upcoming narrative adventure gets a small delay
I’m a simple woman. Annapurna puts out a game, and I play it, and it’s likely going to be one of my favorites of the year because they just can’t seem to miss. That’s why I’m so excited for their upcoming release, A Memoir Blue, developed by Cloisters Interactive. The game was announced at Annapurna Interactive’s Showcase last year, where we got a first look at the magical realist narrative experience through the reveal trailer. A Memoir Blue was initially slated to release February 10, 2022, but Annapurna has just announced that the date has been pushed to March 24.
A Memoir Blue, called an “interactive poem” by its publisher (I love that), tells the story of a young athlete named Miriam as she uses the act of swimming to relive memories with her mother. The game’s visuals are a gorgeous blend of 3D and hand-drawn art styles, which I think will tie into the abstract gameplay vignettes and poignant themes beautifully. I haven’t seen this style done in many other games, so I’ll be interested to see how it all comes together.
From what we know of the game so far (which, other than what’s in that trailer, is very little), it seems like it’s going to fit in perfectly with the rest of Annapurna’s catalog quite nicely, considering its focus on the mother-daughter relationship, which looks quite sweet. A Memoir Blue seems like it’ll be pretty experimental in how it tells its story, even by Annapurna’s standards, but the more out there the better, I think. It’s a bit of a bummer that the game got delayed, at least to me, but the good news is we won’t have to wait long.
A Memoir Blue will be available on March 24, 2022 for Xbox Series X and Series S, Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
