Remember the karma systems from Fallout 3 and New Vegas? Sadly, Fallout 4 didn’t have this feature, as Bethesda seemed to want to reduce actual role-playing, favoring quite a heavy lean towards action. Luckily, a modder has come to the rescue for those who miss what it was like to be hated or loved in an RPG.
Over on Nexus Mods, user bp42s has brought Karma back to the wasteland, by implementing the missed feature into the fourth Fallout game. As the creator says: “Karma is back!”
The mod takes its cues from the likes of New Vegas and F3, doling out praise and punishment behind the scenes, depending on your actions. Now, when you play as the Sole Survivor, what you do will shape how others respond and react to you, like your decisions actually meant something. Remember that?
What about when the update comes out?
All this talk of Fallout 4 mods may leave some of you feeling a little wary about trying out new ones. Nexus Mods has been struggling to cope recently as servers have been getting overloaded with people looking for Fallout content. Then there’s the next-gen update that’s coming this week, which is likely to break or mess up a lot of custom modifications.
However, according to bp42s, their karma mod should be absolutely fine to cope with the big patch once Bethesda sends it out, “regardless of the version you’ll be playing on.”
They also say they’ve spent “quite a while rebuilding it from scratch to have less hard dependencies” on additional downloads. It is still recommended to have a few other mods installed beforehand, but you should be good to go.
