Nelson Abalos over at Pixelated Geek had a chance to interview Tony Hawk, at LEGOLAND of all places, and the skateboard legend mentioned that he’s working on a new game “probably for next year.” News that will be received by the choir of a swarm of crickets at this point.
But who knows, maybe Activision will have gotten the message that nobody really cares about the franchise anymore after the last Tony Hawk game, Shred, sold a whole 3,000 copies at launch. Here’s an idea: go back to the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 era.
We already have Skate for the more “realistic” approach to skateboarding, and the fun of the old THPS games is hard to find in skateboarding games nowadays. I’d say there’s room for both a silly score-based game and a game like Skate in the market, especially in the downloadable space.
