Publisher is looking for ways to bring the series back to life
Any Crash Bandicoot fans getting excited over rumors of the orange ex-Sony mascot returning to the house of PlayStation for a much-needed reboot may have raised their hopes in vain. Rumors sparked early last week after an alleged screenshot of an Amazon France listing of a new Crash Bandicoot surfaced (believed to be a hoax), and peaked late last week when reddit user cocobandicoot found that Activision removed all mentions of Crash from its sites, including shutting down the official website for the series.
It appears Activision is gearing up to do something with the franchise that doesn’t include returning Mr. Bandicoot back to Sony, as a representative stated to Game Informer later that day that “Activision owns Crash Bandicoot and we continue to explore ways in which we could bring the beloved series back to life.” If I was to reach way out there, I’d speculate that maybe Activision definitely still owns Crash, but that the publisher is licensing it back to Sony so it can develop a reboot. Too far-fetched?
