The 2012 PSP title, Fushigi no Dungeon: Fuurai no Shiren 4 Plus: Kami no Hitomi to Akuma no Heso has received an English fan translation thanks to some intrepid fans. Now simply called Shiren the Wanderer 4 Plus: The Eye of God and the Devil’s Navel, the patch is available for download now.
The Shiren the Wanderer series is one of the many branches of Chunsoft’s eternal Fushigi no Dungeon series, which started on the Super Famicom with 1993’s Torneko no Daibōken: Fushigi no Dungeon, a spin-off of Dragon Quest IV. Fushigi no Dungeon 2: Furai no Shiren was the standalone follow-up to that. They were roguelites before roguelite was even defined as a distinct sub-genre.
Whether or not we received a game in the Fushigi no Dungeon series in North America has always been rather scattershot. The Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games are generally a safe bet, but we were passed by for a lot of Shiren the Wanderer games. For example, Shiren the Wanderer 4 was never localized. It was originally released in 2010 on the DS before getting this upgrade “Plus” port on the PSP in 2012.
If you’ve never played a game in the Mystery Dungeon series, they’re roguelite dungeon crawlers. I’ve personally only picked away at the surface of a few of the titles, but I think it’s about time to change that. If you’re interested in taking the dive but don’t want to mess around with fan translations, the newest entry, Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil, is coming to Switch in North America February 27, 2024.
Otherwise, if you want to try this translation of Shiren the Wanderer 4 Plus by fans SharkSnack, Arc Impulse, and Kotcrab (and some additional contributors), it’s available right over here.
