A $20 value
Nintendo and Amazon have partnered in a way that many Switch owners will probably find useful. Subscribers to Twitch Prime (which is automatically bundled into every Amazon Prime subscription) can get a free year of Nintendo Switch Online.
The process is slightly convoluted but not too bad. Log into the Twitch Prime Loot website before September 24 to claim three free months. Then, 60 or more days after nabbing the three months, but before January 22, log in again to nab another nine months. Maybe mark your office calendar of cute kittens to serve as a reminder.
It’s a decent perk for anyone who already has an Amazon Prime subscription. Nintendo Switch Online runs $4 per month or $20 for an annual membership. It grants access to features like online play, cloud saves, and a few classic games each month.
There are some caveats, though. This only pertains to individual plans and not family plans. Also, you can use this promotion to extend your current Nintendo Switch Online subscription, but Nintendo won’t let you build more than three years’ worth of credit. So, anyone who already has a few years banked might want to strategically choose when they redeem this to maximize its effect.
Nintendo Switch Online’s value has been been in constant question since it was first introduced. The advantages aren’t as strong as PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold, but it’s also significantly cheaper. Still, a lot of people don’t really see the need to invest in this $20 annual subscription. Now, anyone who already has Amazon/Twitch Prime won’t need to make that decision.
