AMD — the company responsible for the Xbox 360’s graphics chip — has boasted about the graphical capabilities of a console that technically isn’t supposed to exist, claiming that Microsoft’s next console will rival James Cameron Presents James Cameron’s Avatar by Award Winning Director James Cameron on the graphical front.
Neal Robison made the claim in the latest Official Xbox Magazine, though he wouldn’t confirm that he was actually working on the console. He added that A.I. and physics capabilities would be so high that every individual pedestrian on the streets of Grand Theft Auto could have its own behavioral patterns, leading to truly distinct and individual NPCs.
I never believe any claim I hear about A.I. in games, because they’re nearly always lies. The graphics capabilities also seem ludicrous. As always, though, my first thought is — how the Hell will developers be able to afford a console of such mythical might, when budgets for this generation are almost out of control?
