Gamers ‘know better’
Marvel has successfully figured out its cinematic universe but what about gaming? Speaking to IGN, Marvel head of games TQ Jefferson explained that we’ll just need to be patient. “The Avengers game will come when we have the right partner, that has the right vision, that has the time to develop a strong, competitive triple-A title and wants to do it right.”
This mandate comes after cash-ins like Captain America: Super Soldier and Thor: God of Thunder. “We got a bloody nose on both of those,” he said. There was a game based on the Avengers in development not too long ago — you might remember its first-person combat (there’s footage here if you don’t) — but it was ultimately canceled.
For the next attempt, “It has to hit our three pillars: Fun and engaging gameplay, true to the characters, compelling story. Without hitting those notes, we shouldn’t do it,” said Jefferson. “Gamers, they know better. They’re not going to flock to something that’s sub-par.”
