Dun dun dun duuuun
What a weird E3 this was. Big publishers like EA held adjacent events off the show floor. Nintendo dedicated its whole booth to a single game, and people just ate it up. Sony had a dedicated app for scheduling appointments to try PlayStation VR games. Kojima happened. And there was even porn!
It was an E3 mostly built on safe or otherwise expected announcements and games we already knew about. I’m not sure what the mood felt like at home, but in-person, that made for a tame expo.
Early in the week, I couldn’t help but be disappointed by the lack of surprises — God of War‘s fatherly ways and Ubisoft’s not-quite-SSX-but-I’ll-still-take-it Steep caught me the most off guard — but looking back, we did get to see some dang-cool stuff. What was the coolest of all?
We’ve tallied our votes for our favorite titles of E3 2016 across multiple platforms and genres, not just our overall pick for game of the show, so you better strap in.
