According to Rovio’s own blog, Angry Birds Space has just hit 50 million downloads in a little over a month. They also state that the game broke all of their previous sales records (which are probably mobile wide, and set by Rovio themselves), and is obviously a rip-roaring success. In addition to some earned boasting, the blog also hints that “something even bigger is on the way.” Angry Birds Space Seasons, perhaps?
While it would be easy to look at the success of the Angry Birds franchise solely from a digital angle, the IP itself is still fairly popular in brick and mortar stores. It seems as if every science-oriented retail outlet has gotten their mitts on Angry Birds Space merchandise as well.
Just last week I was at the Seattle Space Needle, and they had Angry Birds Space merch, complete with crowds of people pointing and going “that’s the iPhone game!” For all you Angry Bird haters out there, this isn’t going away anytime soon. Mark my words, your future children will be begging for a Red Bird plushie one day!
