If I haven’t seen it, it’s new to me!
Given that I’m in the middle of a Zelda: Breath of the Wild replay now, it’s amazing to see fresh videos and revelations pop up to this day. We’re coming up on the fourth anniversary of Breath of the Wild in early 2021 and things are still surprising me. This time, for instance, I actually watched live as the Tarrey Town map was filled in: knowing what I know now. Going forward, I’m also going to listen to the SOS signals from Divine Beasts.
Although it was discovered back in 2017 by several players, I never really caught on to the fact that the theme song for each Divine Beast contains an “SOS” morse code signal. This caught my eye thanks to a ResetEra post, which pretty much blew my mind. I always felt like something was going on with the themes there, but never put two and two together.
Like many Breath of the Wild fan theories, there’s a lot to unpack here. ResetEra user Jadow suggests that each SOS is conveyed in turn with the urgency of each Champion (a theory blogger Liquid-Geodes surmised in 2019): like Revali’s signal coming in late as a result of his boisterous and prideful personality. The thought of all of these characters dying horrible deaths from Ganon’s Scourges and trying to call for help makes the context that much more horrifying.
