Thinner, lighter, more powerful
At this morning’s Apple press event, the new iPad Air was announced.
It still has its 9.7″ Retina display, but the bezel is 43 percent thinner now. The device is 7.5 mm thin — 20 percent thinner than the last generation. It weighs just one pound.
iPad Air uses the iPhone 5s’s new A7 chipset and 64-bit architecture.The graphics are 72 times faster than the original iPad, Apple says.
A 5MP iSight camera with 1080p video and dual microphones are included, as is 10-hour battery life.
It comes in silver, white, gray, and black.
The new iPad Air will be available November 1, starting at $499.
In related news, he iPad mini gets a Retina display with the latest update. Its resolution is 2,048 x 1,536, just like the new iPad Air. It is also a 64-bit device, powered by the A7 chip. The 16GB model Wifi unit will be priced at $399, available later in November. The existing iPad mini will be re-priced to $299.
