Arcade1Up’s home arcade cabinets look fabulous

I’m just curious how moddable they are

Pre-orders have opened for a line of 3/4 scale arcade cabinets from Arcade1Up featuring games like Centipede, Rampage, Ghosts N’ Goblins, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo. The machines are a little under four feet tall, use a 17″ LCD screen, and feature licensed, authentic artwork. They look the part.

  • Atari’s Centipede Cabinet: Centipede, Millipede, Missile Command, Crystal Castles
  • Atari’s Asteroids Cabinet: Asteroids, Tempest, Major Havoc, Lunar Lander
  • Midway’s Rampage Cabinet: Rampage, Defender, Joust, Gauntlet
  • Capcom’s Street Fighter II Championship Cabinet: Street Fighter II Championship, Super Street Fighter II New Challenger, Super Street Fighter II Turbo
  • Capcom’s Final Fight Cabinet: Final Fight, 1944: The Loop Master, Ghosts N’ Goblins, Strider

These are $400 a piece, and the company is also offering an optional cabinet riser and stool.

Between the game selection, form factor, and controls, the cabinets aren’t going to be for everyone, but I do see the appeal. I’m curious what intrepid buyers will find when they poke around inside.

We’ll find out more details before long — the cabinets hit shelves on September 25.

“Pre-orders for Arcade1Up can be placed in-store at GameStop locations and online at Walmart.com, BedBathandBeyond.com and GameStop.com,” according to today’s press release.
