Art Attack Friday: Maxpower

Recommended Videos

Now this is what I really love to do for Art Attack Friday. You! I want to see your stuff. Sure, it’s great seeing other peoples work, but I’d really like to be able to feature you all as well.

This week, a masterpiece from Dtoider Gerald, also known as Maxpower. Last month, Maxpower was looking for some help in a painting he was trying to create. Thanks to some help from the community, Maxpower came up with some ideas and created this awesome mural.

As far as what went into the piece and how long it took:

Well there were a lot of sleepless nights. From conception to completion, I’d say it took 200 hours or so, over the course of a month. Majority of it is acrylic paint. Heavy body gel was used on the clouds and the Mario brick path. Many individual pieces were cut out to create depth. The face, tongue, arm, and PS3 were cut from another hardboard panel and glued on the painting surface. There are also smaller pieces made that are detachable. The Mario blocks, the giant black DS stylus, the NES controller, the Mario pipe filled with handhelds, the music notes and the car (it’s actually based on the Camaro used in the Transformer movie for Bumblebee) are all detachable (velcroed). I’ll give you a list of all references used later. I kinda want the viewers to find out as much detail as they can on their own.

Hit the gallery for tons of pictures of the piece, early concept work, and how big the piece is! Also, HI-RES!

Simply amazing. My favorite part has to be the reflection of the PS2 in the PS3. What say you readers?
