At one time Assassin’s Creed releases were on an annual cadence, with spin-off games released in between. Players were getting a ton of Assassin’s Creed content in a short amount of time. And, with so much content in each one, some could argue it became difficult to keep up. Ubisoft recently changed their gameplay with Assassin’s Creed; it’s been almost three years since the release of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The newest entry into the series, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, looks to return the popular stealth action series to its roots. Instead of the new open-world mechanics, Mirage will focus on stealth, parkour, and assassinations. Here’s everything confirmed for Assassin’s Creed Mirage so far including its release date, timeline, and much more.
Release date — When does Assassin’s Creed Mirage come out?
The action-stealth adventure title recently had its release date moved up by one week. Assassin’s Creed Mirage will now be released on October 5, 2023, on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. There has been no mention of a Switch version at this time. However, a mobile version of Assassin’s Creed Mirage was featured on the iPhone 15 Pro at Apple’s newest event, with a release date of early 2024. Mirage will launch at the price of $49.99.
Timeline — When and where does AC Mirage take place?
In the timeline of the Assassin’s Creed universe, Mirage is technically a prequel to Valhalla. The story takes place in Baghdad in the year 861, 12 years before the events of Valhalla. Players will take on the role of a younger Basim who has recently joined the Hidden Ones and began his journey as an assassin.
Ubisoft has confirmed that Mirage will take place during the Golden Age of Baghdad. The city streets will be filled with people, and the city will be the most lively we have seen yet in the franchise.
We also know that at some point players will be able to leave the city of Baghdad and traverse Alamut Castle, the stronghold of the assassins.
Gameplay — Everything confirmed about Assassin’s Creed Mirage gameplay
Ubisoft has made it clear that the intent with Mirage is to return to the series’ roots. The last three titles have been massive open-world adventures—that will not be the case with Mirage. Instead, players will be tasked with learning the layout of the city of Baghdad and pulling off high-octane assassinations via stealth and parkour.
This means that technically the game world in Mirage will be smaller than recent entries. The developers intend to make the city of Baghdad more dense than previous cities, meaning players will have more to do and explore while in the city despite it being a smaller overall map. Instead of running across wide-open landscapes, players will be returning to parkouring across the rooftops of buildings to reach their destination.
